A case of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia achieving complete response with rituximab.

Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia is characterised by the formation of auto-antibodies that bind to the erythrocyte surface membrane, leading to haemolysis. It is the main cause of acquired extracorpuscular haemolysis in children. It can be classified according to the characteristic temperature reactivity of the red blood cell auto-antibody in warm-antibody autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (reacting a...

Human leucocyte antigens A, B, C, and DRW in idiopathic "warm" autoimmune haemolytic anaemia.

Twenty patients with idiopathic "warm" autoimmune haemolytic anaemia and 40 controls were types concurrently for human leucocyte antigens (HLA) A, B, C, and DRW. There was a significantly stronger association of HLA-B8 with the disease (chi 2 = 10.39; p = 0.018) than HLA-DRW3 (chi 2 = 3.71; P = 0.35) and the patients also showed a significant increase in BW6 homozygosity (chi 2 = 7.13; P = 0.01...

Warm autoimmune haemolytic anaemia and autoimmune hepatitis in an asymptomatic carrier of hepatitis B virus.

Warm antibody autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, a rare disease (0.2-1 per 100,000 populations), is due to the presence of warm agglutinins that react with protein antigens on the surface of red blood cells causing their premature destruction. Here, we present a case report of a 10 year old girl who came with features of haemolytic anaemia and history of blood transfusion since 3 years. On admissio...
